WOW...this year has flown by so fast and it has been a very exciting year for our Peer Education Program!  First quarter the Peer Educators gave all the freshmen a reality check in a presentation of what they will need to expect from being successful in High School.  We also visited Kalaheo High School's Peer Educators and helped to inspire their program this school year.

Second quarter Peer Educators created campaigns around campus to encourage keeping our school a "Safe, Drug and Alcohol Free School".  We had an amazing Haunted House, organized and hosted school wide lunch activities, did classroom presentations to all the freshmen health classed, visited and presented to King Intermediate 7th grade Health Classes, worked with Honolulu Police Department and did Christmas Caroling before the semester ended.

Third Quarter the Peer Educators visited Puohala Elementary School and made an impact there as they worked with the entire school for most of the day.  Peer Educators created lessons and fun activities that taught the elementary school students how to work well together, communicate, problem solve and make right choices.  They caused an uproar at King Intermediate School with a flash-mob as they jumped into their last day's fitness fun day dancing to Beyonce's ‘Let's Move’ song.

The Peer Educators are wrapping up the year by going back into all the freshmen classrooms presenting about a very important issue amongst teens, Relationships and Sexual Harassment/Assault.  They will also be having their final campaign and lunch activity to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly during graduation as well as wish our seniors farewell and good luck!!

Castle's Peer Educators did an awesome job with sharing important messages and making an impact on others this year...we should all be very PROUD of these young people!!!
Aloha, Ms. Leilani Silva

What is PEP?
An Advanced Health Elective Course that is based on the Advocacy Health Standard. Students are trained on important teen issues and how to educate their peers on making the right choices. They learn how to do presentations, to share information in other classrooms and other schools within our community. They do school-wide activities such as lunch-time assemblies, bulletin announcements, and campaigning for a healthy cause. (e.g., Great American Smoke-Out sign waving).

The Peer Education Program is supported by our superintendent and Lt. Governor as well as other important agencies such as the Department of Health, MADD, Domestic Violence Clearinghouse, Planned Parenthood just to name a few. We are proud to say that Castle High School is one out of only 24 schools in the State of Hawaii that is fortunate enough to have the peer education program.

Any student grades 9 - 12 who wants to make a difference and help others live healthy lives are invited to join PEP. Castle High's Peer Education Program also welcomes support from our community in helping our teens make right choices and live healthy lifestyles.
